Small targeted excavation in a block-paved driveway exposing the located mains water leak in Bridgend

Case study: a hidden mains leak beneath a block-paved driveway

A homeowner faced lifting an entire block-paved driveway to chase a rising water bill. Using tracer gas and acoustic detection, our technician pinpointed the failed mains joint to roughly one square metre. One small excavation later the leak was found, repaired and documented for the insurer.

Leak detection questions, answered plainly

Straight answers about how the survey works, what leak detection costs and what you receive.

Most residential surveys take a few hours depending on the property and the symptoms. Because our price is fixed at £480 + VAT, the cost is the same however long the investigation takes.

Our methods are non-invasive. We use diagnostic equipment to locate leaks precisely, avoiding unnecessary excavation and keeping disruption to floors, walls and surfaces to an absolute minimum.

Where excavation or access works are required to locate and repair the leak, every effort will be made to minimise any damage to the surrounding area. However, due to the nature and location of the works, some damage or disturbance to existing surfaces and finishes may be unavoidable to safely access the affected pipework. Once access has been gained and the leak has been located, any necessary reinstatement works and associated costs will be assessed and included within a separate reinstatement quotation.

Yes. We provide comprehensive reports detailing the findings from our investigation. Depending on the nature of the leak and the equipment deemed most appropriate by the engineer on the day, this may include thermal imagery, photographic evidence, moisture readings and other diagnostic findings.

Not all equipment or diagnostic methods will be required for every investigation. Our qualified engineer will assess the circumstances and use the most suitable equipment and techniques to accurately locate and identify the source of the leak.

Where leak detection is covered under your insurance policy, the report can be provided to support your insurance claim.

A £100 non-refundable call-out deposit is taken at the time of booking. The remaining balance is payable once the leak has been located and can be paid securely by card machine. For weekend call-outs, an additional £150 weekend charge will be added to the final balance.

Your report will be issued once payment for the trace and access service has been received in full.

We serve homeowners, landlords, insurers, plumbers, housing associations and commercial property managers throughout Wales and neighbouring regions of England, including Bristol, Birmingham, Cheltenham and Bath.
